TEHRAN/DOHA/ISLAMABAD (MNN); The United States launched a sixth consecutive night of military strikes on Iran, targeting multiple locations across the country as tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to intensify amid growing fears of a wider regional conflict.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest wave of attacks was aimed at further degrading Iran’s military capabilities. Iranian media reported explosions in several southern regions, including Bandar Abbas, Ahvaz, Bushehr, Qeshm Island, Iranshahr and Bandar-e Khamir.
Iranian state television reported that at least two people were injured after a US strike targeted a railway substation in Bandar Abbas. Separately, Tasnim News Agency said a communications tower on a hill overlooking Bandar Abbas was struck, causing a power outage in parts of the city and leaving seven people injured.
Iranian media also reported that US fighter jets launched missile strikes on Iranshahr Airport in southeastern Iran, while Fars News Agency claimed that a bridge in Bandar-e Khamir was also targeted.
The US military confirmed that it had disabled an oil tanker attempting to reach an Iranian port in the Strait of Hormuz after the vessel allegedly ignored repeated warnings. According to the Pentagon, Hellfire missiles were fired to stop the tanker from reaching Iranian-controlled waters.
Preliminary images emerging from Bandar Abbas showed visible damage to infrastructure following the latest round of strikes.
In response, Iran claimed it had launched retaliatory attacks targeting US military assets in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan.
Iran’s Fars News Agency, citing Iraqi media, reported a series of explosions in Kuwait, adding that the blasts were heard as far away as Iraq’s southern city of Basra.
Iranian military officials warned that if the United States targeted civilian infrastructure, “all infrastructure in the region will be crushed under steel blows,” signaling the possibility of further escalation.
Meanwhile, Kuwait announced that its air defence systems had detected 32 hostile drones in its airspace since early Thursday morning.
The US Embassy in Baghdad also issued a security advisory urging American citizens in Iraq to remain vigilant following a drone attack near Erbil a day earlier.
A US military spokesperson told Al Jazeera that approximately 50,000 American troops remain deployed across the Middle East and are prepared to carry out any mission if required.
The latest military exchanges have further heightened fears of a broader regional confrontation, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining at the centre of the conflict due to its strategic importance for global energy supplies.
