TEHRAN/ISLAMABAD (MNN); Iran’s military has claimed that it carried out missile and drone attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates amid renewed hostilities between Tehran and Washington.
According to a statement aired by Iranian state television, the Iranian army targeted satellite communication systems, equipment depots and fighter aircraft hangars at Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait using missiles and drones.
Iran also claimed to have struck locations housing US forces and radar systems at Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE.
Kuwait strongly condemned the latest Iranian attacks, describing them as a serious threat to the country’s security, stability and the safety of its citizens and residents. The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said the strikes constituted a grave violation of international law.
The Kuwaiti military said its air defence systems were intercepting hostile missiles and drones launched from Iran. In a statement posted on X, the army said its forces were responding to what it described as Iranian aggression.
Meanwhile, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, according to the UAE’s state news agency. The report also said the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance their mutual interests.
Iran’s Health Ministry said at least 18 people were killed and 142 others injured in US attacks between August 30 and September 2. Iranian officials said 44 children were among the injured, while one child and two women were among those killed.
Iran has also appealed to the United Nations Security Council to condemn what it described as an unprovoked US attack on a residential house hosting a wedding ceremony in southern Iran. Tehran said the attack killed five civilians, including a four-year-old child, and injured more than 70 others.
Iran’s ambassador and chargé d’affaires to the UN, Gholamhossein Darzi, made the appeal in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council president following a new wave of US strikes on southern Iranian cities.
Iranian authorities also claimed that additional naval mines had been laid along routes south of the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari said the move was part of an overnight operation.
Separately, Iranian news outlet ISNA reported that the bomb which struck a wedding ceremony in Kohistik was of American origin. The report quoted a former US Army munitions disposal technician as saying that the remnants appeared to match the specifications of a US-made JSOW bomb.
US President Donald Trump said Washington was prepared to launch further attacks against Iran following what he described as extensive and heavy strikes.
“We blew up much more than their radar last night. It was a very heavy attack last night, and we’re prepared to do another one any time we want,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office.
Meanwhile, Qatar condemned the renewed Iranian attacks on Kuwait, calling them a violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a breach of international law.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry warned that continued attacks could further complicate efforts to contain regional tensions and undermine diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring security and stability.
Doha expressed solidarity with Kuwait and supported measures taken by the country to protect its sovereignty and security. Qatar also called for an immediate end to military operations, restraint by all sides and a return to dialogue and negotiations.
