JEDDAH/ISLAMABAD (MNN); The multinational Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) has entered its practical implementation phase, with Commodore Rashid Sheikh of the Pakistan Navy assuming his responsibilities as Deputy Commander of the coalition from its command headquarters.
The development marks an important step in the operational expansion and coordination of the multinational maritime coalition, which brings together participating countries to strengthen maritime security and cooperation in strategically important waterways.
According to the announcement, liaison officers from several member states have also begun joining the command structure, while a number of other countries are currently completing procedures to formally accede to the coalition.
The liaison officers are being assigned directly and sequentially in accordance with the designated allocations for each participating country, reflecting the coalition’s efforts to establish an organised and integrated multinational command structure.

Pakistan has long been an active participant in multinational naval operations aimed at combating piracy, terrorism, smuggling and other illegal activities at sea. The Pakistan Navy has also regularly contributed ships, personnel and officers to international maritime security missions.
The Combined Maritime Forces is a multinational naval partnership focused on promoting security, stability and freedom of navigation across key international waters.
Its operations have traditionally involved cooperation among naval forces in areas of strategic importance, including the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden and other major maritime routes connecting the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.
The coalition’s practical implementation phase is expected to further improve coordination among member states through the deployment of liaison officers, information sharing and joint operational planning.
The inclusion of additional countries currently working on accession procedures could further expand the coalition’s reach and strengthen its collective ability to respond to emerging maritime security challenges.
Maritime security has gained increasing importance in recent years due to threats to commercial shipping and the growing strategic significance of key sea lanes in the wider Middle East and Indian Ocean region.
The deployment of multinational naval forces and the establishment of coordinated command structures are seen as important measures to ensure the safety of commercial vessels and maintain uninterrupted international trade.
Pakistan’s participation in the coalition is also expected to strengthen its naval diplomacy and deepen defence cooperation with friendly and partner countries.
With Commodore Rashid Sheikh assuming the position of Deputy Commander and liaison officers joining the command headquarters, the Combined Maritime Forces has formally moved towards the operational implementation of its multinational maritime cooperation framework.
