WASHINGTON: Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is currently in “critical but stable condition,” according to his spokesperson on Sunday.
Spokesperson Ted Goodman did not share further details about Giuliani’s health or the duration of his hospital stay.
“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same strength now,” Goodman said in a statement. “We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani.”
Now 81, Giuliani gained widespread recognition for his leadership during the September 11 attacks, which earned him the nickname “America’s Mayor.”
He later served as a lawyer for Donald Trump, supporting efforts to challenge the outcome of the 2020 U.S. presidential election—actions that resulted in criminal charges in two states and a defamation lawsuit filed by election workers. Giuliani has denied any wrongdoing in those cases.
In a social media post, Trump described him as the “Best Mayor in the History of New York City” and claimed he had been treated unfairly by Democrats.
Giuliani had also been hospitalized previously following a car accident in New Hampshire last year.
