Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is undergoing medical examinations and procedures and is expected to remain under observation for two days, his aide said on Monday.
Press Secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said in a statement that Anwar was âundergoing examinations and procedures set by a team of medical expertsâ, but did not disclose further details about his condition.
âLet us pray ⊠that he is blessed with long-lasting health so that he can return to his usual duties in the near future,â the statement said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his wishes for Anwarâs speedy recovery.
In a post on X, he said: âWishing my dear brother, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, a swift and smooth recovery during his medical procedures.â
âThe people of Pakistan join me in praying for his continued good health and well-being,â he added.
Anwar, who turned 79 on Monday and has served as prime minister since 2022, has previously experienced recurring shoulder and back problems. He was hospitalised in 2018 after suffering from shoulder and back pain.
In November last year, he cancelled a visit to Pahang state because of back pain.
A routine medical examination in January resulted in a clean bill of health, according to a statement from the hospital.
