The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Wednesday announced an extension of airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft until January 23, 2026. The extension was issued a week before the previous restriction was set to expire on December 24.“Pakistan airspace will remain closed to Indian-registered aircraft, including all aircraft owned, operated, or leased by Indian airlines, as well as Indian military flights,” the authority stated.
According to the NOTAM, the restriction, which is already in force, will continue until January 23, 2026, within the specified timings.Pakistan’s airspace is divided into two flight information regions (FIRs) — Karachi and Lahore, as per a 2022 document by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA). The NOTAM applies to both the Karachi (OPKR) and Lahore (OPLR) FIRs.India and Pakistan have kept their airspaces closed to each other’s airlines since tensions escalated in late April following an attack in occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed 26 people.
New Delhi, without providing evidence, accused Islamabad of supporting the attack. Pakistan strongly denied any involvement and offered a neutral investigation. In early May, the two nuclear-armed nations engaged in their fiercest military clash in decades.
