ISLAMABAD; Romania has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding economic cooperation with Pakistan, as bilateral trade surpasses the $200 million mark. In a recent meeting with Pakistanâs Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, a Romanian representative emphasized the potential to deepen trade ties by enhancing exports and addressing structural challenges.
Both sides discussed broadening exportsâRomanian machinery, pharmaceuticals, and IT services on one side, and Pakistani textiles, rice, and surgical instruments on the other. They also identified key obstacles such as banking hurdles and customs inefficiencies that need resolution to facilitate smoother trade flows.
The talks also touched upon joint ventures in sectors like renewable energy, agriculture, and the digital economy. Romania expressed interest in collaborating through Pakistanâs Special Economic Zones (SEZs), with additional focus on halal food, infrastructure development, and technological partnerships. The engagement underscores Romaniaâs intent to pursue a forward-looking and mutually beneficial economic partnership with Pakistan.
