ISLAMABAD (MNN); Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday to discuss his upcoming visit to Tehran, the evolving regional situation, and Pakistanâs overall law and order and security environment.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Ministerâs Office, the premier provided guidance regarding the interior ministerâs forthcoming visit to Iran. The two leaders also held detailed consultations on the countryâs prevailing peace and security situation and measures being taken to maintain stability.
Sources said discussions also covered ongoing contacts related to the United States-Iran dialogue, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefing the interior minister on key aspects of his upcoming engagements in Tehran.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi briefed the prime minister on his recent interactions with regional leaders and officials on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation conference in Bishkek.
The prime minister emphasized the need for close coordination among all state institutions and directed authorities to adopt a unified strategy for strengthening law and order and enhancing national security.
The interior minister informed the premier about ongoing efforts to maintain peace across the country and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
A day earlier, Naqvi held talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, focusing on bilateral relations, border management and the broader regional situation.
The discussions came amid heightened regional tensions and continued diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing friction between the United States and Iran. Diplomatic sources indicated that Pakistan has remained engaged in facilitating dialogue and encouraging diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Last month, Mohsin Naqvi undertook a previously unannounced visit to Tehran, where he met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Iranian media reported that Naqviâs meeting with President Pezeshkian lasted approximately 90 minutes and included senior Iranian officials, among them Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
During separate discussions, Iranian officials highlighted regional security challenges and stressed the importance of political solutions to ongoing conflicts.
The latest diplomatic engagements come as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue despite ongoing efforts to sustain dialogue and prevent further escalation in the Gulf region. Security concerns surrounding maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, remain a major focus of regional and international diplomacy.
