ISLAMABAD (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday briefed President Asif Ali Zardari on his upcoming visits to Saudi Arabia and Turkey aimed at advancing peace efforts, according to a statement from the President’s Secretariat.
The prime minister also took the president into confidence regarding all aspects of the ongoing dialogue between Iran and the United States. Pakistan recently hosted direct talks between the two sides in Islamabad, marking their highest-level engagement since 1979. While the talks concluded without an agreement, both sides remained engaged and may return for another round later this week.
President Zardari appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating the dialogue and highlighted the broader regional and global implications of the situation. He commended the government, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with state institutions, for their coordinated diplomatic initiative.
The prime minister briefed the president on the progress and various stages of the mediation process, reaffirming that Pakistan remains actively engaged in promoting peace. President Zardari emphasized the need for continued proactive engagement with global and regional stakeholders to sustain the peace process.
