ISLAMABAD (MNN); Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi returned to Pakistan on Sunday after a brief visit to Oman, as part of a three-nation diplomatic tour aimed at advancing efforts to ease regional tensions.
According to diplomatic sources, Araghchi arrived at Nur Khan Airbase following his meetings in Oman and is expected to hold talks with senior Pakistani officials during his short stay before departing for Moscow.
His visit comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts, particularly by Pakistan, to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington following the escalation triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year.
During his stay in Oman, Araghchi met Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and discussed regional developments and ongoing peace initiatives. The Omani leadership emphasized dialogue and diplomacy as key to achieving lasting political solutions, while Iran appreciated Muscat’s role in promoting regional stability.
Iranian officials also highlighted concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz and broader Gulf waters, with Araghchi criticizing the US military presence in the region and calling for a security framework free from external interference.
Separately, Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan to discuss regional developments and diplomatic progress.
Earlier in Islamabad, Araghchi had conveyed Iran’s response to US proposals aimed at ending the conflict during meetings with Pakistan’s civil and military leadership. While details remain undisclosed, sources indicate Tehran emphasized a “rational and fair” framework and rejected negotiations under pressure, particularly amid the US blockade of Iranian ports.
Pakistan continues to play a key mediating role after hosting the first round of direct US-Iran talks earlier this month, though progress remains stalled due to ongoing disagreements, including issues surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme.
