ISTANBUL: A former student opened fire at his high school in Turkiye on Tuesday, wounding 16 people, including students, before taking his own life, officials said.
The incident took place in the Sanliurfa Province in southeastern Turkiye. Security forces were quickly deployed to the scene, and students were evacuated from the school.
Governor Hasan Sildak confirmed that the 19-year-old attacker used a rifle during the shooting. The injured were taken to a hospital in the Siverek District, with several victims still receiving treatment.
Authorities said the attacker died by suicide after being cornered by police.
Television footage showed ambulances outside the school and students fleeing in panic as the situation unfolded.
Officials have secured the area and launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
