ISLAMABAD (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a series of telephone conversations with leaders of Malaysia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, where all sides emphasized the urgent need to reduce tensions amid escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The ongoing war involving the United States and Israel against Iran has widened across the region. Tehran has targeted US installations in several countries, including Azerbaijan, while Israel has intensified strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, where both leaders exchanged Eidul Fitr greetings and discussed the regional security situation. The prime minister strongly condemned attacks on Azerbaijan and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with its people.
Both leaders agreed on the necessity of immediate de-escalation and called for resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. They also expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and pledged to further strengthen cooperation.
In a separate call, PM Shehbaz spoke with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The two leaders prayed for unity in the Muslim world and stressed joint efforts to promote peace. They reiterated their commitment to enhancing Pakistan-Malaysia relations and exchanged Eid greetings.
Similarly, during his conversation with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, both sides discussed the worsening situation in Iran and the Gulf region. They agreed on the importance of immediate de-escalation and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The leaders also welcomed the positive outcomes of recent high-level engagements and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also held discussions with Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Abdullah II on the same issue, underscoring Pakistan’s active diplomatic engagement on the Middle East crisis.
