ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly received Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at his official residence on Wednesday.
President Tokayev arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Pakistan and Kazakhstan share longstanding friendly diplomatic ties, with Kazakhstan serving as Pakistan’s leading export destination in Central Asia. The visiting president is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including senior cabinet members and key officials.
Footage released by his office showed Islamabad’s streets decorated with Kazakhstan’s national flag in honor of his visit.
Earlier, the President’s Secretariat announced that President Asif Ali Zardari would confer the Nishan-i-Pakistan—Pakistan’s highest civilian award—on the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, with the latter expected to visit later this month.
According to the Foreign Office, President Tokayev is scheduled to meet both President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and will also address the Pakistan–Kazakhstan Business Forum. The Foreign Office emphasized that the visit offers a timely opportunity for both nations to conduct a comprehensive review of their bilateral relationship and explore expanded cooperation in trade, logistics, connectivity, people-to-people engagement, and collaboration in regional and international platforms.
