Ankara: Turkey will launch its first overseas deepwater drilling operation in Somalia next month, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said. The drilling vessel Cagri Bey is scheduled to be deployed in February to explore offshore areas in Somali waters, marking Turkey’s first deepwater energy exploration project abroad.
Bayraktar did not disclose details regarding the size of the investment or the potential reserves being targeted. The move follows an energy exploration agreement signed between Turkey and Somalia in 2024.
Ankara has been actively working to diversify its energy sources and reduce dependence on imports by expanding exploration activities both domestically and internationally.
