UK–Pakistan trade has crossed the £5.5 billion mark for the first time, marking a significant milestone in bilateral economic relations. In this context, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with the UK’s Minister for Development, Baroness Chapman, has launched a comprehensive package of regulatory reforms aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s economy.
Drawing on UK technical expertise, both sides collaborated on legislative reforms covering more than 450 regulations. These measures are expected to generate an economic impact of up to PKR 300 billion annually, with further reforms planned in the coming phases.
A key initiative under this framework is the introduction of the “Regimeter,” a new system designed to simplify business processes. The platform will facilitate the registration of medicines and technology, streamline approvals for commercial developments, and improve export procedures, enabling Pakistani businesses to access global markets more efficiently.
Officials emphasized that a stronger and more competitive Pakistani economy will also create new opportunities for British companies, reinforcing the mutually beneficial nature of UK–Pakistan economic cooperation.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the UK’s Minister for Development, Baroness Chapman, and UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott.
