ISLAMABAD (MNN); Russia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) have explored new avenues for strengthening cooperation in science, technology and higher education.
Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev held a meeting with a COMSTECH delegation headed by its Coordinator General, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, on August 12.
The meeting focused on opportunities to further develop cooperation between COMSTECH and Russia, which holds the status of an OIC Observer State.
Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary highlighted COMSTECH’s fruitful cooperation with Kazan Federal University and the Russian Association of Earthquake Engineering and Protection against Natural and Man-Made Hazards.
The two sides identified significant potential for expanding academic exchanges, including stronger links between universities, scholarship programmes and joint fundamental research projects.
They also stressed the need to accelerate implementation of initiatives agreed upon at the first meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation between COMSTECH and the Russian Federation in science, technology and higher education.
The working group meeting was held in Kazan on May 13, 2026, on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum.”
Ambassador Khorev reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to expanding multifaceted dialogue with the OIC and Muslim countries, including Pakistan.
The participants noted that cooperation between Russia and COMSTECH was also contributing to the strengthening of bilateral Russia-Pakistan relations.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular contacts and provide all possible support for the implementation of joint projects.
