Gaza Strip: Health officials said Israeli strikes across Gaza killed six people and injured several others on Wednesday, including the son of Hamas’s chief negotiator, as violence continued despite an October ceasefire.
Although the truce has significantly reduced large-scale fighting, both the Israeli military and Hamas continue to accuse each other of breaching the agreement, while air strikes and clashes persist across the territory.
“Five people have been killed since this morning in strikes by the occupation on the Gaza Strip,” Gaza’s civil defence agency, which functions as a rescue service under Hamas administration, said.
Al-Ahli Hospital said it had received “three dead and a number of wounded following an Israeli drone strike on the Zeitoun neighbourhood, southeast of Gaza City”.
Another strike in Gaza City killed one person and wounded 10 others, among them the son of Hamas chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya.
Two additional people were killed and more than 10 others injured in separate attacks elsewhere in Gaza, according to officials.
A security source said one of those killed was a Hamas police officer.
The ceasefire, which came into effect in October, largely halted the war that erupted after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
However, violence has continued, with Gaza’s health ministry reporting that at least 837 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began.
