ISLAMABAD (MNN); The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) on Monday conferred an Honorary Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery upon Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in recognition of his distinguished contributions to public health, medical education, scientific research, and dedicated service to humanity.
The honorary fellowship was awarded during a special ceremony held in Islamabad in the presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Dr. Pezeshkian, who has a distinguished background in medicine and has long been associated with healthcare and public service, was honoured for his efforts in advancing medical sciences, promoting healthcare education, supporting medical research, and serving society through his professional and public roles.
The CPSP stated that the award reflects Pakistan’s appreciation of the Iranian president’s contributions to the medical profession and his commitment to improving healthcare services and medical education.
Officials said the conferment of the honorary fellowship would also help strengthen bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran in the field of medicine and healthcare. The initiative is expected to pave the way for closer collaboration between medical colleges, universities, and healthcare institutions in both countries.
The development is likely to promote academic partnerships, joint medical research programmes, faculty and examiner exchange initiatives, and greater institutional cooperation in medical training and professional development. It is also expected to facilitate the sharing of expertise and best practices in healthcare, benefiting medical professionals and students in both nations.
Participants at the ceremony emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people contacts and professional linkages between Pakistan and Iran, particularly in the health sector, where both countries have opportunities to expand cooperation in education, research, specialized training, and medical innovation.
The award ceremony formed part of the Iranian president’s official engagements during his visit to Pakistan, underscoring the close and longstanding ties between the two neighbouring countries and their commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors, including healthcare, education, science, and research.
