ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding brotherly partnership between Pakistan and Kuwait while holding detailed discussions on the evolving situation in the Middle East.
Sheikh Jarrah, who arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for an official visit, met Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. The two leaders first held a tête-à-tête before delegation-level talks aimed at reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional and international developments.
According to the Foreign Office (FO), the two sides reviewed all aspects of Pakistan-Kuwait cooperation and reiterated their shared resolve to deepen bilateral ties.
“They also held in-depth discussions on regional and international developments, with particular focus on the evolving situation in the Middle East,” the FO said in a statement.
The ministry said the delegation-level talks would cover the entire range of bilateral cooperation, including political, economic and regional matters.
Earlier, the FO spokesperson said the Kuwaiti foreign minister’s visit reflected the longstanding brotherly relations between the two countries, built on shared history, mutual trust and close cooperation.
The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows recent reports that Pakistan and Kuwait are discussing expanding defence cooperation alongside increased energy and investment collaboration.
Reuters recently reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions, that the two countries have been negotiating a broader defence agreement. Kuwait has maintained a limited defence cooperation arrangement with Pakistan since 2023, focused on military training and joint exercises.
According to the report, Kuwait is seeking expanded defence cooperation with Pakistan, including a larger military presence and enhanced security collaboration, although neither Islamabad nor Kuwait has officially commented on the reported negotiations.
