ISLAMABAD: A senior delegation from Turkiye’s top court is set to arrive in Pakistan today (Monday) for a four-day official visit, during which a significant agreement on judicial cooperation will be signed.
The visit, scheduled from April 6 to 9, is being hosted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to a press release issued by the apex court on Sunday, the Turkish delegation includes judges and senior officials from the Constitutional Court of Turkiye, led by its President Kadir Ozkaya.
A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on judicial cooperation at the Supreme Court premises on Monday. The agreement aims to create a structured and forward-looking framework for collaboration, focusing on judicial exchanges, capacity building, and the sharing of best practices in adjudication.
“The initiative reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Turkiye to strengthening constitutional governance, upholding the rule of law, and reinforcing judicial independence, as well as to fostering closer institutional linkages between their superior courts,” said the press release.
A key component of the cooperation will be the professional development of the judiciary, particularly at the district level, through joint training programmes, academic exchanges, and exposure to comparative judicial practices, the statement noted.
It further stated that the collaboration is expected to promote the use of modern technologies in judicial processes, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and access to justice.
The MoU also proposes the formation of a joint working group to ensure continued engagement and effective implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation, the press release added.
During their stay, the visiting delegation will take part in high-level institutional meetings and interact with key stakeholders in the justice sector. These engagements will centre on contemporary challenges in adjudication, judicial administration, and reform-driven initiatives.
