Sports Desk (MNN); The West Indies cricket team registered a commanding 107-run victory over the Zimbabwe national cricket team in their Super Eight Group One encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, strengthening their campaign and adding pressure on India.

In the 44th match of the tournament at Wankhede Stadium, West Indies posted a massive total of 254 for six in their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first.

Zimbabwe, chasing a daunting 255-run target, were bowled out for 147 in the 18th over, falling well short of the mark.

Explosive batting display

West Indies were reduced to 54 for two during the power play, but they quickly regained control with an aggressive batting onslaught.

Shimron Hetmyer led the charge with a blistering 85 off just 34 balls, hammering seven sixes and seven fours. He built a crucial 122-run partnership for the third wicket with Rovman Powell, who contributed 59 runs from 35 deliveries.

Sherfane Rutherford remained unbeaten on 31 off 13 balls, while Romario Shepherd chipped in with 21 from 10 balls. Jason Holder added a quickfire 13 off four deliveries.

Captain Shai Hope scored 14, and Brandon King managed nine runs. The innings featured 21 extras and included 19 sixes and 16 fours, with 75 runs coming in the final five overs.

For Zimbabwe, Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani claimed two wickets each, while Graeme Cremer and Brad Evans picked up one wicket apiece. Captain Sikandar Raza conceded 52 runs in three overs without taking a wicket.

Zimbabwe had elected to field first after winning the toss.

In the same group, South Africa had defeated India a day earlier, tightening the competition for qualification.
