ISLAMABAD (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced a cash prize of Rs10 million for every member of the Pakistan Under-19 cricket team following their resounding victory against India.
Congratulating the young players, the prime minister termed the win historic, saying such a dominant margin reflected the teamâs hard work, discipline and dedication. He also lauded the Pakistan Cricket Board, team management, coaching staff and players, adding that the entire nation deserved congratulations.
The announcement was made at a luncheon hosted by the prime minister in honour of the Under-19 squad, attended by players, officials and support staff.
Addressing a joint press conference after the victory, Pakistan Under-19 head coach Shahid Anwar said the team had been instructed to play fearless cricket. He credited the success to collective effort and strong teamwork on the field.
Team mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed disclosed that the prime minister personally informed the players about the Rs10 million reward during the meeting. He said the team celebrated the victory while upholding sportsmanship and respect.
Captain Farhan Yousaf said the management fully supported the players and clearly communicated expectations from the start. He said the players were told that responsibility for defeat would rest with the management, while any victory would belong to the team.
He added that Pakistan played aggressive cricket against India but stressed that the squadâs primary focus was now on preparations for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup.
Sarfaraz Ahmed also expressed concern over what he described as unsporting behaviour by the Indian team, saying Pakistan celebrated its success with restraint and in the true spirit of the game.
The Pakistan Under-19 team will now turn its attention towards continued preparations for the Under-19 World Cup.
