BEIJING – At the 6th Russia-China Media Forum in Beijing, Vladimir Tabak, President of the Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN), urged enhanced international collaboration to combat fake news. He highlighted that while social networks claim neutrality, they often propagate politically biased narratives, and emphasized that no global mechanisms currently exist to effectively counter disinformation.
Tabak stressed the importance of local initiatives and recommended that China deepen its cooperation with the GFCN in areas such as education, methodology exchange, and coordination on international platforms.
The forum also focused on the growing threat of deepfakes, with Russia presenting its Zephyr detection system, developed in partnership with BigTech companies. China has actively participated in the GFCN’s “Dialog about Fakes” forum for three years, while Russian experts have regularly joined related events in Kunming.
