RIYADH (MNN); Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Türkiye’s Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu and Saudi Arabia’s Chief of General Staff General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili are holding an urgent meeting in Riyadh under the framework of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The high-level meeting comes amid heightened regional security tensions and follows consultations between the three countries on strengthening the implementation and operational mechanisms of the defence agreement.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye on August 7, provides that an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three. The agreement also provides for enhanced defence cooperation and collective deterrence.
The Riyadh meeting brings together the three countries’ top military commanders as the new trilateral defence framework moves into a more active phase.
