RAWALPINDI (MNN); Pakistan and Kuwait have reaffirmed their commitment to transforming their historic and brotherly relations into a strong, lasting and mutually beneficial defence partnership.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a high-level Kuwaiti delegation led by Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah met Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The Kuwaiti defence minister was accompanied by the Chief of General Staff of the Kuwait Armed Forces, Lt Gen Khaled Darj Saad Al-Shriaan.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security and ways to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing institutional links and expanding mutually beneficial collaboration between their armed forces. The Kuwaiti delegation also appreciated the professionalism, operational capabilities and contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces towards regional peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Kuwait signed the Protocol Agreement 2026, marking a significant expansion in bilateral military cooperation under the Defence Cooperation Agreement concluded between the two countries in 2023.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between Kuwaiti Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah and Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in Rawalpindi.
Under the new framework, Pakistan’s Armed Forces will assist Kuwait in areas including military training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed fields of defence cooperation.
The latest development follows Kuwait’s ratification of the 2023 Pakistan-Kuwait Defence Cooperation Agreement last month. Since then, high-level contacts between the two countries have increased, including exchanges involving senior military and diplomatic officials.
The growing engagement reflects efforts by both countries to strengthen security cooperation and contribute to regional peace and stability amid continuing uncertainty in the Gulf region.
