ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Government of Japan has announced grant assistance of $53,419, equivalent to approximately Rs14.8 million, for the establishment of a Women’s Vocational Training Institute in Chakwal district, Punjab.
The assistance is being provided to the Moawin Foundation under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme.
The grant agreement was signed on August 27, 2026, at the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad between Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi and a representative of the Moawin Foundation.
The project, titled “The Project for the Construction of Women’s Vocational Training Institute in Village Dulmial, District Chakwal,” aims to strengthen skills development opportunities for vulnerable women and help them achieve greater economic independence.
Under the project, a dedicated vocational training facility will be constructed on land donated by the local community of Village Dulmial. The institute will offer structured courses in dressmaking, stitching and fashion design to women from the surrounding areas.
The facility is expected to provide quality vocational training to around 240 women every year, enabling them to acquire practical skills, earn an income and build more secure livelihoods.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu expressed hope that the institute would serve women and families in the area for many years. He appreciated the contribution of the local community for donating land for the project and said Japan was pleased to support the community’s long-standing goal of establishing a permanent vocational training facility.
The Japanese government reaffirmed its commitment to women’s empowerment and said it would continue working with local non-governmental organisations through the GGP programme to improve grassroots human security and strengthen the longstanding friendship between Japan and Pakistan.
