Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, where the two sides discussed regional security and measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, the regional security environment, and opportunities to deepen ties between Pakistan and Kuwait.
During the meeting, CDF Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its longstanding relationship with Kuwait, emphasizing that both countries share a “common vision for regional peace and prosperity.”
The Kuwaiti foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s “steadfast support,” as well as its constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability, and praised the strong fraternal ties between the two nations.
PM Shehbaz, Kuwaiti FM discuss cooperation
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met the visiting foreign minister and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Kuwait across multiple sectors.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with federal ministers for defence, commerce, national food security and research, communications, maritime affairs, petroleum, and other senior officials.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, information technology, maritime affairs, and human resource development.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the regional situation, with PM Shehbaz expressing Pakistan’s solidarity with Kuwait’s leadership and people. He condemned the attacks on Kuwait and other Gulf states during the ongoing Middle East conflict and said Pakistan was playing its role as an “honest and sincere mediator and facilitator” in regional peace efforts.
The prime minister also thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for its continued support.
In response, Sheikh Jarrah reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
He also appreciated the “valuable contributions” of Prime Minister Shehbaz, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and CDF Asim Munir in “advancing dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the current crisis and restore peace to the region.”
Both sides emphasized the importance of continued consultation and coordination on regional and international issues and agreed to increase high-level exchanges and official delegations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also renewed his invitation to Kuwait’s Crown Prince to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.
Dar, Kuwaiti FM review regional developments
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held delegation-level talks with Sheikh Jarrah at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Foreign Office (FO), the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of Pakistan-Kuwait relations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the longstanding brotherly partnership.
They also discussed regional and international developments, with particular focus on the evolving situation in the Middle East.
The delegation-level talks covered cooperation in trade, investment, energy, labour, agriculture, information technology, health, mining and minerals, defence, and broader economic collaboration.
Both sides agreed to further institutionalize bilateral cooperation through stronger institutional linkages and regular high-level exchanges.
The FO said Pakistan and Kuwait also reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination at multilateral forums on issues of mutual interest.
Sheikh Jarrah thanked the government and people of Pakistan for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s support during the Covid-19 pandemic, when Islamabad dispatched medical workers to Kuwait.
For his part, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding the mutually beneficial partnership with Kuwait across all sectors and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to deepen cooperation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the situations in the Middle East and Palestine, with the Kuwaiti foreign minister appreciating Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Following the conclusion of his official visit, Sheikh Jarrah departed Islamabad and was seen off at Islamabad International Airport by Additional Secretary (Middle East) Zahid Hussain.
The visit, undertaken at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, reflected the longstanding brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait, founded on shared history, mutual trust, and close cooperation.
According to earlier Reuters reporting, Pakistan and Kuwait are also engaged in discussions on expanding defence cooperation in exchange for enhanced energy collaboration and investment.
