ANKARA: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday during his official visit to Türkiye, according to the Turkish Presidency.
A post shared by the Turkish Presidency on X said President Erdogan received Field Marshal Munir at Ankara airport. Reuters reported that the meeting was held behind closed doors and was also attended by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Chief of Turkish General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, and National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin.
The Turkish embassy in Pakistan said in a separate post that CDF Munir was given a guard of honour by a tri-services contingent of the Turkish armed forces upon his arrival in Ankara.
The embassy highlighted the longstanding defence ties between the two countries, saying that “rooted in brotherhood, mutual trust and a shared strategic vision,” the military cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan continues to strengthen.
Field Marshal Munir arrived in Türkiye on Monday for a two-day official visit. The exact timing and details of his meetings with Turkish leadership have not been disclosed.
Pakistan has not yet issued an official statement regarding the visit. However, state media reported that the CDF is expected to hold important meetings with Türkiye’s political and military leadership.
The visit comes after recent high-level defence engagements between the two countries. Last month, Turkish Land Forces Commander General Metin Tokel met Field Marshal Munir during his visit to Pakistan, where they discussed regional security developments and ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.
General Tokel also held meetings with Pakistan’s naval and air chiefs during his visit.
