Web Desk; Iran announced on Monday that it has executed a man accused of being one of Israel’s top spies, following a conviction of working for its arch-rival.
According to the judiciary’s Mizan Online, “Bahman Choubi Asl, one of the leading spies of the Zionist regime in Iran, was hanged this morning.”
Tensions between Iran and Israel escalated after a 12-day war in June, triggered by unprecedented Israeli air strikes targeting Iranian military, government, and nuclear facilities. The strikes resulted in the deaths of senior officers, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of others, including civilians.
In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israel, a country it does not recognize. Since then, Tehran has vowed speedy trials for individuals suspected of cooperating with Israel and has reported multiple arrests and executions of alleged Mossad collaborators.
On Monday, Iran’s judiciary claimed that Choubi Asl worked “closely” with Israeli intelligence and had “privileged access to vital and sovereign databases” of the Islamic Republic, though it did not specify when he was detained.
Earlier this month, Iran also executed Roozbeh Vadi, accused of passing intelligence about a nuclear scientist who was assassinated during the June conflict. Authorities have further confirmed an investigation into 20 other suspects arrested on charges of collaborating with Israel.
