ISLAMABAD (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that, on his personal behalf and alongside Field Marshal Asim Munir, he expresses sincere gratitude to US President Donald Trump for graciously accepting Pakistan’s request to extend the ceasefire, allowing diplomatic efforts to continue.
In a social media post on X, the Prime Minister said Pakistan will continue its earnest efforts for a negotiated settlement of the conflict and expressed hope that both sides will maintain the ceasefire and move towards a comprehensive peace deal during the second round of talks scheduled in Islamabad. The post also carried tags of senior US and Iranian officials, including @realDonaldTrump, @JDVance, @SecRubio, @SteveWitkoff, @SEPeaceMissions, @drpezeshkian, @mb_ghalibaf, and @araghchi.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement on social media, President Donald Trump said that at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the United States has agreed to extend the ceasefire and hold back military action while maintaining readiness. He added that discussions should continue until a unified proposal is presented by Iranian leadership.
The developments come as diplomatic efforts intensify ahead of expected second-round talks in Islamabad aimed at achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict.
