ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to embark on a three-nation tour, visiting Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye, as Pakistan intensifies its diplomatic engagement amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
According to sources, the visit will begin in Saudi Arabia, followed by Qatar, with Türkiye as the final stop. The prime minister is expected to hold high-level meetings with regional leadership to discuss evolving security dynamics and diplomatic developments.
In Riyadh, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, where discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional and global issues. Both sides are also likely to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors.
A significant part of the discussions will revolve around the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route currently affected by escalating tensions. Consultations will also include the future of negotiations between the United States and Iran.Pakistan has recently taken on a key mediatory role, hosting high-stakes talks in Islamabad between US and Iranian officials—the first direct engagement between the two sides in over a decade. Despite 21 hours of negotiations, no formal agreement was reached.
The fragile ceasefire that followed weeks of conflict remains under strain, particularly after reports of a US maritime blockade targeting Iranian ports. However, sources indicate that both sides may return to Islamabad for another round of talks later this week.
The prime minister’s visit is being seen as part of Pakistan’s broader effort to stabilize the region and reinforce its diplomatic relevance during a critical geopolitical moment.
