KARACHI (MNN); The Pakistan Airports Authority has extended the ban on Indian aircraft using Pakistani airspace for another month, keeping the restriction in place until February 24, according to a Notice to Airmen (Notam) issued on Tuesday.
The extension was announced just three days before the previous deadline of January 23, which had been set under the last extension issued on December 17.
Pakistan and India have barred each other’s airlines from using their airspace since tensions escalated in late April following an attack in Pahalgam, located in occupied Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives.
Under the latest Notam, Pakistan’s airspace will remain closed to all India-registered aircraft until 5am on February 24. The ban covers civilian as well as military flights and applies to all aircraft owned, operated, or leased by Indian airlines or operators.
The restriction is effective from ground level to unlimited altitude and applies to both of Pakistan’s flight information regions, Karachi (OPKR) and Lahore (OPLR), as defined by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.
