Reuters- China on Thursday accused the United States of misrepresenting its defence policy in an attempt to hinder improving relations between China and India. The accusation followed a Pentagon report suggesting that Beijing aims to exploit easing border tensions with India to prevent closer ties between Washington and New Delhi.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China views its relationship with India from a long-term and strategic perspective. He emphasized that the border issue is strictly a bilateral matter between China and India and rejected outside interference, stating that Beijing “objects to any country passing judgment on this issue.”
Earlier this week, the Pentagon said in a report that China “probably seeks to capitalize on decreased tension” along the disputed border to stabilize relations with India and curb the deepening of US-India cooperation.
