WASHINGTON / ISLAMABAD; US President Donald Trump has claimed that a US Navy destroyer intercepted and took control of an Iranian-flagged vessel in the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly attempted to evade a naval blockade. According to reports, the vessel ignored warnings, prompting US forces to open fire and disable it before taking it into custody.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has also released videos and operational details regarding the reported seizure of the ship, providing further insight into the incident.
Meanwhile, Iran has strongly condemned the US naval blockade. In a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian termed the blockade a “clear violation” of the ceasefire understanding and contrary to the UN Charter. He reiterated that Iran remains fully determined to defend its sovereignty against any renewed US or Israeli actions.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Pezeshkian held a detailed telephonic discussion lasting around 45 minutes, during which they exchanged views on the evolving regional situation.
