US President Donald Trump’s physician has stated that the 79-year-old remains in “excellent health” following a routine medical examination, though he was advised to lose weight and increase physical activity.
In a medical memo released on Friday, US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella said, “President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function.” He added that “preventative counseling was provided, including guidance on diet, recommendation to take a low-dose aspirin, increased physical activity, and continued weight loss.”
The three-page report summarized the physical examination and diagnostic tests conducted at Walter Reed Medical Center earlier this week. According to Barbabella, Trump is “fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
The report noted that Trump, who will turn 80 next month, currently takes three medications — two for cholesterol management and aspirin for “cardiac prevention.” His weight was recorded at 238 pounds (108kg), up from 224 pounds (101.6kg) during his last publicly released annual medical examination in April 2025.
The examination came amid public speculation regarding the president’s health, including concerns about bruising on his hands and instances of apparent drowsiness during meetings. The memo attributed the hand bruising to frequent handshaking while taking aspirin and described it as “common” and “benign.” It also mentioned “slight lower leg swelling” that has improved since last year.
The report found Trump’s cardiac function to be normal and stated that “a comprehensive neurological examination demonstrated normal mental status,” including screenings for depression and anxiety.
Shortly after the examination, Trump commented on his Truth Social platform, saying the check-up went “PERFECTLY.”
