WASHINGTON (MNN); US President Donald Trump has said he is ready to deal with “whoever’s running the show” in Iran, noting uncertainty over the country’s leadership amid what he described as internal divisions.
Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed there is “tremendous infighting” within Iran and suggested multiple factions are competing for control. He added that some leaders may even be reluctant to take charge, saying recent actions had “knocked out two levels of leadership.”
The US president also reiterated that Washington would not wait for prolonged diplomatic arrangements, saying if Iran seeks dialogue, it should reach out directly instead of requiring long travel schedules.
Commenting on his decision to cancel the planned visit of US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan, Trump said the trip was called off due to logistical concerns. “They weren’t meeting the leader of the country… and it was too much travelling, very time-consuming and expensive,” he said.
Despite the cancellation, Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership, describing the country as “terrific” and appreciating both its field marshal and prime minister. He noted that Pakistan is keen to see progress in the ongoing peace process involving Iran.
