TEHRAN (MNN); Iran has appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to end the Middle East conflict, while refraining from commenting on the latest US-announced ceasefire extension.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran was grateful for Pakistan’s mediation but emphasized that Iran remains committed to safeguarding its national interests and security. He added that Iranian armed forces are fully prepared to defend the country against any threat.
On the possibility of renewed talks with the United States, Baqaei said diplomacy would be pursued when conditions are deemed suitable, stressing that Iran had not initiated the conflict and its actions were based on the right to self-defence.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire, citing a request from Pakistan’s leadership to allow time for Iran to present a unified proposal. He said the US military would maintain its blockade while remaining ready for further action.
Despite Pakistan’s active mediation and efforts to bring both sides back to the negotiating table, uncertainty continues over the second round of talks, with no confirmation from Tehran and delays in the arrival of US negotiators in Islamabad.
The deadlock largely revolves around the US maritime blockade of Iranian ports, which Tehran considers a violation of the ceasefire spirit, along with disputes over nuclear commitments and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian leaders have warned that meaningful negotiations are not possible without lifting blockades and ending pressure tactics.
