ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy has conducted a successful live weapon firing of the Taimoor Air-Launched Cruise Missile, an indigenously developed anti-ship weapon system, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday, in a demonstration of precision strike capability and operational readiness.
The Air-Launched Cruise Missile executed its mission with precision, validating Pakistan Navy’s ability to detect, target and neutralise sea-based threats at extended ranges, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. The test follows the successful trial of another indigenously developed ship-launched anti-ship missile on April 16.
According to ISPR, the demonstration marks an elevation of national defence capability and strengthens the Pakistan Armed Forces’ coordinated strike posture in the conventional domain. Pakistan Navy said it remains committed to safeguarding the country’s maritime interests and sovereign waters.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir, along with services chiefs, congratulated the scientists and engineers on achieving this milestone.
Earlier this year, Pakistan Navy also conducted a surface-to-air missile test in the North Arabian Sea, while the Pakistan Air Force successfully tested the Taimoor Weapon System capable of striking land and sea targets at ranges of up to 600 kilometres.
