DOHA (MNN); Qatar and Ukraine signed a defence agreement on Saturday focusing on cooperation against missile and drone threats, as regional tensions rise amid ongoing aerial attacks.
According to Qatar’s defence ministry, the agreement includes collaboration in advanced technologies, joint investments, and the exchange of expertise in countering missiles and unmanned aerial systems. The deal comes during a regional tour by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
During his Gulf visits, Zelensky also secured defence cooperation agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. In talks with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, both sides agreed to enhance security and defence coordination, with technical details to be finalised later.
Additionally, Ukraine signed an air defence agreement with Saudi Arabia, as Kyiv seeks to expand its strategic partnerships in the region.
Ukraine is leveraging its battlefield experience, particularly in countering drones, to assist Gulf nations facing similar aerial threats. Ukrainian anti-drone experts have already been deployed to multiple countries visited by Zelensky.
Zelensky stated that ensuring stability and protecting lives remains a shared priority, adding that Ukraine is ready not only to receive support but also to assist its partners.
Ukraine has promoted its air defence systems as highly effective and has proposed cooperation arrangements that could involve exchanging its interception technologies for advanced missile defence systems used by Gulf countries.
The agreements highlight Kyiv’s efforts to strengthen international defence ties while addressing evolving security challenges in the region.
