DAVOS: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir on Thursday held a series of informal meetings with global leaders on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
According to a statement from the Prime Ministerâs Office (PMO), the two met Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir also attended US President Donald Trumpâs address to world leaders at the forum on Wednesday.
The prime minister is on a three-day visit to Davos from January 20 to 22, leading a high-level delegation. On Wednesday, he addressed a breakfast event at the Pakistan Pavilion, where he said export-led growth was the only viable path forward for Pakistan, highlighting a decline in inflation and a reduction in the policy rate.
PM Shehbaz also met International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, briefing her on improvements in Pakistanâs macroeconomic indicators, stabilisation measures, and progress on institutional reforms. He reaffirmed Pakistanâs commitment to fiscal discipline, revenue mobilisation, and sustainable development.
Additionally, the prime minister held a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa on the sidelines of the forum. PM Shehbaz arrived in Davos on Tuesday and said in a post on X that his visit aimed to strengthen Pakistanâs engagement at the WEF with global trade and investment partners.
