QUETTA: Iran’s Consul General in Quetta, Mohammad Karimi Todashki, has urged both Pakistan and Iran to take concrete steps to eliminate obstacles affecting bilateral trade and strengthen economic cooperation.
Addressing a meeting with representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) and prominent members of the business community, the Iranian envoy stressed that removing trade barriers had become an urgent priority. He said both governments should take effective action at the highest level to facilitate smoother commercial ties.
“Iran is fully committed to strengthening trade relations with Pakistan and will extend every possible cooperation to resolve the issues faced by the business community,” the envoy said.
Todashki said Iran viewed the concerns of Balochistan’s business community as its own and would continue working to address them. He added that discussions with relevant authorities were underway to improve infrastructure and facilities at the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing and other trade routes, streamline customs procedures, and speed up cross-border trade.
Speaking on the occasion, QCCI President Haji Muhammad Ayub Mariani called for the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing to remain open around the clock to ensure uninterrupted imports and exports and prevent unnecessary delays and financial losses for traders.
He also noted that the Gabd-Rimdan crossing faces heavy traffic every day due to the movement of hundreds of commercial vehicles, leading to significant congestion.
