BRUSSELS: Belgium’s Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot has strongly criticized Israel’s military conduct in Lebanon, describing it as “totally unacceptable” ahead of a European Union foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg.
Prevot acknowledged Israel’s security concerns and condemned Hezbollah’s initial attacks, saying the group’s actions—motivated by solidarity with Iran—had dragged Lebanon into a conflict it did not seek. However, he stressed that Israel’s response has been “disproportionate and indiscriminate.”
The Belgian foreign minister also urged the European Union to consider a partial suspension of its Association Agreement with Israel. He noted that while Belgium supports stronger EU action, a full suspension appears unlikely due to differing positions among member states.
