Reuters: An Indian-flagged vessel carrying crude oil was attacked on Saturday while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, according to an Indian government source.
The vessel, identified as ”Sanmar Herald”, was reported safe, with crew unharmed. At least two merchant vessels came under gunfire while transiting the strait earlier in the day, according to reports. India has summoned Iran’s ambassador following the incident.
The development comes amid renewed tensions in the region. Donald Trump said on Friday that Iran had agreed to reopen the waterway, while Iranian officials maintained that any sustained reopening depends on the lifting of US restrictions on Iranian oil shipments.
Shipping data indicated that more than a dozen tankers had passed through the strait after a 50-day blockade was lifted, before restrictions were reimposed on Saturday and vessels were again targeted.
