ISLAMABAD; Renowned Pakistani climber Mrs Asma Mushtaq has died during her descent from Spantik Peak (7,027 metres) in the Karakoram Range, the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) said.
According to the ACP, Asma Mushtaq successfully reached the summit of Spantik Peak and was in good health at the time. However, while descending at an altitude of approximately 6,400 metres, she suffered a severe high-altitude medical emergency.
Despite an immediate response and the dedicated efforts of her mountain guides, who provided all possible assistance under extremely challenging conditions, she could not survive.
The Alpine Club of Pakistan paid tribute to the courage, professionalism and commitment of the guides, who remained with her throughout the emergency and made every possible effort to save her life.
ACP President Maj Gen Irfan Arshad Khan (HI(M)), along with the entire Alpine Club team, expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and loved ones of the deceased climber.
The club said it stood in solidarity with Asma Mushtaq’s family and the wider mountaineering community during this moment of profound grief.
