WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the White House for a formal state visit, where the two leaders shared a light moment during the official reception. A White House caption referring to the meeting as “TWO KINGS” sparked debate, with critics questioning the symbolism in a country founded on rejecting monarchy. This is not the first time Trump has invoked royal imagery.
In October 2025, he shared AI-generated videos depicting himself wearing a crown and royal attire, which drew criticism from political opponents. The visit highlighted the long-standing relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Speaking to Congress earlier in the day, King Charles emphasized shared democratic values, referencing historic documents such as the Magna Carta, the 1689 British Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Bill of Rights, stressing that executive power must remain subject to checks and balances.
Some U.S. lawmakers pushed back on the “TWO KINGS” framing, noting that sovereignty in America lies with the people, not a single ruler. Trump has previously rejected accusations of acting like a monarch, maintaining that his leadership reflects democratic principles.
