RAWALPINDI (MNN); Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Monday reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to further strengthen bilateral relations with Libya, the military’s media wing said.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces Field Marshal Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar, along with Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, called on Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The two sides held detailed discussions on issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on regional security situations and avenues for professional and defence cooperation. The talks highlighted the importance of sustained engagement and collaboration between the armed forces of Pakistan and Libya.
Welcoming the visiting dignitaries, Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and expressed support for peace, stability and institutional development in Libya.
ISPR said the meeting took place in a warm and constructive environment, reflecting the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.
Earlier, upon his arrival at Noor Khan Airbase, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar was received by Field Marshal Asim Munir. The Libyan commander also paid tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs and laid a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial at GHQ.
It may be recalled that in December, Pakistan signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement to supply conventional military equipment to the Libyan army. According to reports, the deal, valued at over four billion dollars, is among Pakistan’s largest-ever arms export agreements and involves the supply of weapons to the Libyan National Army.
