HARARE (MNN); Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets in the Super Six stage of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Harare. The victory ensures Pakistan’s progression to the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament.
Winning the toss, Pakistan captain opted to bowl first, a decision that proved decisive. The Pakistani bowlers executed a disciplined plan, restricting New Zealand to 110 runs in 28.3 overs. Abdul Subhan led the attack with 4 wickets, Ali Raza claimed 3, while Mohammad Sayam and Momin Qamar contributed one wicket each. New Zealand’s Hugo Bogue top-scored with 39 runs, while Mason Clarke (17), Tom Johns (15), and Calum Samson (10) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. Two Kiwi players were dismissed without scoring.
Chasing a modest target of 111, Pakistan wrapped up the game in 17.1 overs with only 2 wickets down. Sameer Mehnas starred with a quickfire unbeaten 76 off 59 balls, anchoring the innings. Captain Farhan Yousuf remained not out on 11, while Usman Khan and Hamza Zahoor contributed 15 and 8 runs respectively.
