Islamabad: Pakistan and Denmark have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) programme to deepen bilateral collaboration in the energy sector and accelerate Pakistan’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
The MoU was signed by Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), Dr. Fakhr-e-Alam, and the Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, H.E. Maja Derrous Mortensen, during a ceremony attended by Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division), Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.
Following the signing ceremony, the Energy Minister and the Danish Ambassador held a high-level meeting to discuss expanding cooperation in the power sector and advancing shared goals for sustainable energy development.
The agreement builds upon the Danish Energy Transition Initiative (DETI), launched in 2021, which has supported Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its energy sector through government-to-government collaboration and Danish technical expertise.
Under the Strategic Sector Cooperation programme, Denmark will continue working closely with Pakistan’s energy institutions to support long-term energy planning, facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the national grid, and improve industrial energy efficiency. These initiatives are expected to enhance energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to Pakistan’s climate commitments.
The partnership reflects both countries’ shared commitment to promoting sustainable development, clean energy technologies, and resilient energy systems through continued bilateral cooperation.
