ISLAMABAD; The United States has dispatched critical flood relief supplies to Pakistan, reaffirming its solidarity with the people affected by the devastating floods that have uprooted thousands of families across the country.
According to the U.S. Department of State, emergency assistance includes food, temporary shelters, and other lifesaving support for communities hit hardest by the disaster. In addition, the U.S. military transported vital equipment to support relief operations, which was delivered to the Pakistan Army at Nur Khan Air Base.
The first consignment arrived on U.S. Air Force C-17 and C-130 aircraft. Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Mission to Pakistan, Natalie A. Baker, was present at the airbase during the arrival of the supplies. She expressed condolences on behalf of the U.S. government, saying the United States was “deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction of homes and livelihoods.”
Baker added that the aid package was approved in direct response to a request from the Government of Pakistan. “The Department of State and the U.S. military authorized foreign assistance funding, along with critical supplies and equipment, to bolster national response efforts in the most affected areas,” she said.
The assistance is expected to provide immediate relief to vulnerable communities, while also strengthening Pakistan’s ability to respond to the large-scale humanitarian crisis caused by the unprecedented flooding.
