RIYADH; The Royal Court announced on Tuesday morning the passing of Sheikh Abdulaziz, President of the Council of Senior Scholars. The statement, carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), described his death as a great loss for the Kingdom and the Muslim world, noting his outstanding contributions to the service of Islam, Muslims, and religious scholarship.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended heartfelt condolences to Sheikh Abdulaziz’s family, the people of Saudi Arabia, and Muslims worldwide.
According to the Royal Court, the funeral prayers will be held after Asr prayers at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. The King has also directed that absentee funeral prayers be performed in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah as well as in mosques throughout the Kingdom.
Sheikh Abdulaziz was widely respected for his scholarly work and leadership in guiding the Muslim community. His passing is seen as a major loss to the Islamic world.
